In 2008, I designed and developed a content managed website for Dagoba Organic Chocolate's Seed the Day outreach campaign.
Artisan Confections Company (parent to Dagoba, Scharffen Berger and Joseph Schmidt) managed the project, and Maxwell PR provided design direction and content.
The site is built using WordPress to allow for client content management and community participation.
Through the website, Dagoba is sharing its conservation efforts in Costa Rica, giving away free seed packets in the U.S., accepting flavor ideas for a future chocolate bar, and requesting garden photos for an inspirational "Green Thumb Gallery." The Greenthinkers Blog says this the "most ingenious campaign to come across our desk in a while."
In 2007-08, I designed and developed a content managed web system for the University Library and a multi-user blogging system for University librarians.
The library's web team (led by Electronic Collections Librarian LorixTownsend) managed the project and provided design direction. The site also complied with University design and accessibility requirements.
The extensive library website is built with WordPress and supports straightforward organization and easy modification of content. The system for librarian guides is built using Multi-User WordPress.

In 2007-08, I illustrated graphics and provided interface design support for GIS Planning's ZoomProspector project.
GIS Planning's president AnatalioxUbalde provided design direction, and KevinxKnapp programmed the site.
Friendly informational graphics and clean interfaces help simplify GIS Planning's innovative web tools.
"…when I was showing this to opinion-makers in the economic development profession at the Orlando Leadership conference there was so much positive feedback about the graphics. They thought they were great. (Good job Sarah!)" —AnatalioxUbalde, CEO, GIS Planning (February 2008)
In 2007, I performed copyediting, photography, and design to produce over 80 signs for Explorit Science Center's traveling classroom science exhibits.
Explorit Science Center provided the initial content and guidelines. Stock illustrations were obtained from various sources.
The signs are used to guide K-6 students in exploring interactive science exhibits. They are designed with clear wording and visuals to allow English Language Learners and non-reading students to undertake science activities with minimal adult assistance.
"Wow! The signs look very nice." "Thanks again for all of your hard work." —MeganxChiosso, Program Director, Explorit (September 2007, December 2007)
In 2006-07, I performed book design, illustration, writing, and document management to produce Global Water's first Resource Book.
Global Water's marketing team provided much of the original copy and photographs.
Global Water's 192-page 2007 Resource Book book was an innovation in the water monitoring and control industry. The book was both a catalog and an informational document that serves to enhance the company's marketing and customer training efforts.
"It has been really great working with you on this and I can hardly wait to see the first printed copy." —PaulxAlleman, Product Manager, Global Water (February 2007)
In 2005-06, I co-created this location-based digital storytelling project and led technical development of the project's main and mobile websites.
My thesis partner, Seamus Byrne, led visual design, video production, and public outreach.
The project's website allows community members to find and tell written, audio, and video stories from an interactive map. Participants can also experience stories on MP3 players and Internet-enabled cell phones. The project's main and mobile websites run on highly customized versions of WordPress.
The Organic City received a Prix Ars Electronica honorary mention, an Interactive Media Arts Outstanding Achievement Award, a Webby nomination, and a CSU East Bay Graduate Research Grant. Seamus is tracking the online discussions of our project in his blog.
